“Fitness is a curve. You can be lance Armstrong, or you can be really out of shape at the opposite end. People enter the curve wherever they are and then they can move the curve, by better nutrition and better exercise”. — Gordon Strachan. Fitness is not just a word for today’s fast
moving life anymore, it is believed to be a personal, integrated approach to healthy, active living for people and is believed to help them maximize their comfort, speed, and efficiency with every stage of their life.

The rapid growth of physical culture and the interest in shaping and sculpting the body can be directly linked to the drastic change in capitalist society and class roles and also training and exercising the body was seen as a way of taking care of God’s gift. This thought of being a ‘better' person and quite appealing in the evolving society have been the root to many and different evolution in Fitness trends. Some are, Morning jogs, gyms, aerobics, cycling, exercises etc.
Our country has initiated to the field of fitness at different levels, as they have launched National Sports Championship for women in 1975 in order to encourage women to participate in sports activities. Time in time, Government has always encouraged service programs, Intramural and Extramural programs and fitness and recreational programs throughout the country from the beginning of independence in order to bring out of fitness and health.
The government has laid a foundation in our minds and bought an awareness in order for us to understand that, participation in any fitness activities and being fit isn’t only bound for children and youngsters but recognized important for people of all ages and both the sexes revolutionary works and later the people continued it and made it habitual and mandatory in accordance to their health and fitness as, the notion of being fit started being directly proportional to their longevity.
Nowadays, the contemporary fitness culture and industry has developed to a great extent. The face of fitness gyms has changed with new techniques, tools and physical exercises added in. The aura of today’s gym draws attention of upper class men and women wanting luxurious facilities without thinking of the expenses in order to gain their ideal body and be called, ‘hard worked', ‘well maintained', ‘fat free' and ‘well trained'.
