How to eat healthy while traveling?
Sazia Azad, 21st march 2021
Pizza and Burger with some fries, this combo might sound tasty but it is not healthy at all, the more consumption of unhealthy food not only can make you feel lazy, inactive, sluggish but can also lead to non-communicable diseases in long term. I do agree that in a world full of unhealthy choices, it is difficult to switch for healthy options initially, but it is not at all impossible if you have the will to take action for yourself. And choosing a healthy alternative not only keeps you guilt-free but can be delicious at times, all you need is proper planning and determination to stick to it.

Here are 5 ways to stick to a healthy diet while traveling and not to end up feeling bloated and sluggish due to overeating:-
1. PACK YOUR MEAL, IF POSSIBLE
It’s the best way to keep yourself away from all the unhealthy distractions waiting out there. And it's recommended to pack healthy and non-perishable snacks like whole or dried fruits, nuts, snack bars, fresh fruits, cut vegetables, cheese sticks, hard-boiled eggs, etc.
2. RESEARCH IN ADVANCE
This is the best possible way to not get caught up in the moment and end up making unhealthy choices to regret later. Search for nearby restaurants and check their menu online, if available. And you can simply enjoy the trip without breaking your head on what to eat, and you also will get some extra time in your hand to spend on something interesting.
3. BALANCE YOUR MEAL
This point needs more attention as many people tend to skip a meal for various reasons, one might be not getting enough healthy food available, don’t ever do this mistake. The best way is to go for the least unhealthy option available and balancing it later by eating healthy and light food for the next meal.
4. STAY HYDRATED
The most ignored and the most important of all is keeping your body hydrated as without water your body can’t be healthy at all. The best way is to set reminders and always carry a water bottle. Drinking a lot of water also keeps you full and you don’t end up snacking on unhealthy foods out of boredom.
5. KEEPING A FOOD JOURNAL
There is a saying “IGNORANCE IS BLISS” it can sometimes be true as well. But when it comes to your body, it is never a good idea to be ignorant about your health and wellbeing. As it is not always about a lack of determination to stick to a healthy diet, most of the time it's a lack of awareness that restricts us from taking a calculative decision about our own body. Here, what becomes important is to knowing your body completely and taking care of its needs. It is said that “A HEALTHY PERSON IS A HAPPY PERSON” and keeping a count of your nutrients intake can be your key to happiness.
Keeping a count of lipids, carbs, fats, and vitamins might sound overwhelming but it's not that complicated, all you need is a will to take action and a plan. And food journaling is the best way to do that, and it's not a burden, instead, it’s the best thing you can gift yourself. And traveling with it, will help you a lot in decision making and you don’t need to break your head. It will tell you the truth if allowed, and all you need to do is accept it and start working on it.
DON’T STRESS, FIND ALTERNATIVES
All the mentioned points can help you stick to a healthy diet to some extent, even while traveling. But completely relying on food is never a good idea as everything can’t be pre-planned and even if we do it might fail sometimes and that can be stressful. And to prevent that, you can look for alternatives to stay healthy and fit, like being diligent about your exercise, drinking lots of water, etc. And believe me, these small things create a whole lot of difference.
